Abstract

 

With China’s successful entry into WTO, international trade between China and western countries all over the world becomes more and more frequent and English business correspondences are more widely used than before. English business correspondence plays an irreplaceable role in international business activities. Good-quality business correspondences can improve the image of an enterprise and help to set up good business relationship with other enterprises. Therefore the study on English business correspondence is of great importance. Politeness, as a typical characteristic of English business correspondence, is a topic worthy of researching.

This thesis, from the perspective of Gu Yueguo’s politeness principle, studies the translation strategies of politeness in English business correspondence. The writer also discusses the application of foreignization and domestication strategies in the translation of business correspondence, hoping to offer some reference for the translation of English business correspondence.
