Abstract:Anti-anthropocentrism and eco-criticism are research hots pots of ecological literature. A majority of scholars analyze Jack London’s The Call of the Wild from the perspective of eco-criticism and the author’s ecological complex. Under the guidance of the theoretical framework of eco-criticism, this paper tries to explore the cause of the inharmonious relationship between human and nature through analyzing Buck’s different experiences with five masters and the human civilization that their words and behavior reflect. Human beings exploit and utilize nature resources immoderately to satisfy their need for money, and they abuse and maltreat dogs during gold rush with the mentality of conquering and controlling nature. Only when people realize their fault, make changes accordingly and take the responsibility of protecting nature and transferring their ideology from anthropocentrism to eco-centered view will they achieve the harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
