Abstract: This thesis makes a study of language characteristics of English news headlines from the aspects of text types, components, grammatical structures, lexical characteristics and so on. Meanwhile, this paper attempts to probe into the translation of English news headlines from the perspective of Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation. And it will center on one question: whether the translation should be faithful to the original text or to the target readers. Furthermore, this study tries to confirm the combination of Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation is the most effective method to translate English news headlines with examples.
