Abstract: This thesis introduces the development of multimedia assisted instruction in China and focuses on the study of application of multimedia technology assisted English teaching in junior middle school. As a new kind of teaching mode, multimedia language teaching has some advantages and disadvantages that arise out of the process of using multimedia assisted teaching. Based on the observation on teaching cases of multimedia assisted teaching and analysis of relevant academic language literature, the paper not only demonstrates multimedia has become an increasingly important teaching tool, but also analyzes the advantages and disadvantages related in attempt to put forwards a series of optimization strategies aiming at the disadvantages. As full use is made of in this way the merits of multimedia, a conclusion can come up that multimedia technology is an efficient teaching tool in the English class.
