Abstract:Vocabulary teaching is the basis of reading classes in foreign languages, but it’s always a problem for junior high schools. On one hand, from teachers’ perspective, teachers adopt single and traditional teaching methods, neglect the context and teach in isolation and pay less attention to teach students vocabulary learning strategies. On the other hand, from students’ perspective, students are lacking in interest and they aren’t aware of the importance of vocabulary.

Based on the related theories of vocabulary teaching and combining with the text book Go for It! ,this paper provides some vocabulary teaching methods , such as using visual techniques, using synonyms and antonyms, using a dictionary, guessing from context and creating situational context, in the hope that the effectiveness of vocabulary teaching in junior high schools can be improved.
