Abstract

As a literary classic, The Story of the Stone has always been the hot point for many scholars. It was born and has been spread in China. Meanwhile, it has always enjoyed high reputation in western countries. Which benefits from its translations. Since then, there are many translations, among which A Dream of Red Mansions translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang and The Stone of the Stone translated by Hawkes and Minford are the most successful versions.

The thesis aims to find the shortages in name translation in the two unabridged versions through contrastive analysis and offer some feasible measures.

Key words: The Story of the Stone; name translation; contrastive analysis
