Abstract

Translation has evolved from an original model with the aim of disseminating information to assuming various missions nowadays. In particular, literary translation is subjected to rigorous demands for cultural communication and artistic expectation reasons. Therefore translators need to make much more efforts to meet the effect of words, an abstract product. This thesis explores the role that creative treason plays in literary translation, analyzing Eileen Chang’s short story Stale Mates as well as its Chinese version, which comes to a conclusion that creative treason is in possession of unique advantage in literary translation, so as to provide translators with a new perspective on literary translation.
