Abstract

 

With the rapid development of cosmetic market, more and more foreign cosmetic products wish to compete for Chinese market. Cosmetic instructions are of a special kind of advertisement which provides information and company marketing. There is, however, insufficient study in the translation of cosmetic instructions. This thesis will explore the topic from the perspective of Skopos theory. The thesis is mainly made up of four chapters. Chapter one is an introduction, including two parts. The first part describes background of the research, the objectives the paper intends to achieve and the problems the thesis is meant to solve. The second part introduces the Skopos theory and cosmetic instructions and their functions. Chapter two is literature review in which the history of Skopos theory as well as previous studies of cosmetic instructions is presented. Chapter three discusses various aspects of cosmetic instructions as well as their translation. Examples are given in this part to analyze the possibility of how to apply Skopos theory in E-C cosmetic instructions translation. The last chapter makes a thorough conclusion of the whole paper.
