Abstract:Based on the theoretical framework put forward by Leech, this paper intends to research the different application of politeness principle and cultural characteristics with explanation to the definition and relevant theories concerning Politeness Principle in a bid to help raise people's consciousness of beautifying their personality and create an elegant conversation atmosphere. It is known that using the politeness strategies properly will contribute to the success of trading activities and therefore, the application of Politeness Principle in writing business English letter is discussed under cross-cultural background through analyzing some examples from the perspective of lexicon, voice and syntax. In addition, how to choose words, voice and syntax while writing a professional business English correspondence is studied so as to enable business correspondence to carry out without barrier either in language or in culture.
