Abstract:The word “hybrid” was first applied in the field of natural science and then extended to linguistics, literary, cultural research and other fields. In translation studies,hybridity is adopted to describe translated version that contains linguistic,cultural elements from both the source text and the target text. Hybridity in translation is inevitable because the translator will meet two kinds of different languages and cultures. From this point, it can be said that all the translated versions are hybrid,resulting from a compromise between domestication and foreignization.

Based on the hybridity theory, this thesis studied hybridity in translation from a historical perspective in three different historical periods, namely, ancient, modern and contemporary, through the case analyses for the study of hybridity concerning languages and cultures, illustrating that hybridity in translation has obviously historic. This thesis also analyzed the social background, typical translation criteria in each period. 

Before the conclusion,the author analyzed the historical evolution, and historic significance of hybridity in translation. And, the thesis reached the conclusion that there existed hybridity in translation from ancient till contemporary.
