ABSTRACT:In middle school English classroom teaching, many teachers pay more attention to their spoken English but lack of concerning about the using of body language. Many survey show that it is particularly meaningful and applicable in language teaching to use body language. In view of these, this paper adopts questionnaire and interview to make a survey of one hundred students in Cao Ba Junior Middle School in Meng Zi. The key points of the research are the attitudes of both teachers and students toward the using of body language, teachers’ purposes of using BL and the roles of BL in English teaching. Date analysis indicated that students agree that the use of body language is important and it has positive impacts on them. Based on the behaviorism theory, some constructive suggestions were given in English teaching. First, teachers should close to content when use BL. Second, teachers should control the time and make clear the purposes of using BL. Third; teachers should grasp the opportunity to use BL. This study aims to trigger teachers to ponder of the BL use in English classes in junior middle schools.

摘要:在中学英语课堂教学中,许多老师更注重课堂英语口语语言的表达,而忽略了肢体语言在课堂上的运用。许多研究表明肢体语言不但意义深远,而且极富实用性。鉴于此,本文采用了问卷调查和访谈的方法,对蒙自草坝中学一百名学生进行了调查研究。旨在调查中学学生对英语课堂上教师使用肢体语言的态度、教师使用肢体语言的目的和母语在英语课堂上所起的作用的情况。结果发现学生们一致认为肢体语言很重要,对他们英语学习起积极作用。本文以行为主义理论为理论基础,就肢体语言在中学英语教学中的应用向老师提出一些建议;1)肢体语言教学要紧扣教学内容;2)要控制肢体语言的使用量和明确使用目的;3)要抓住使用肢体语言的机会。本研究旨在引发中学英语教师对肢体语言使用的思考,并提出建议帮助英语教师通过肢体语言的应用提高教学的有效性。

   At the end of this thesis, a brief conclusion of this study based on the survey has done. The use of body language by teachers in middle school English class teaching can bring about great influences on students’ learning. From findings and discussing of this study, it can be figured that the use of body language in middle school English teaching have great influence on the students’ learning. On the contrary, without using of body language, the classroom will be boring and dull. Besides this, the application of body language is not paid enough attention too, it will somewhat have influence on the relationship and communication between teachers and students. Teachers’ appropriate and accurate application of body language in middle school English class is important for both teachers’ teaching and students’ learning. It will result in good teaching effects too. However, when teachers use BL in English class, they should pay attention to the following aspects; first, teachers should use body language close to teaching content,; secondly, teachers should control the time of using body language; thirdly, teachers should make the purposes of using body language clear; fourthly, teachers should grasp the opportunity of using body language.
