英语谚语的文化差异及其翻译
Cultural Differences in Proverbs and Their Translation
摘 要
谚语是反映真理或者提供建议的一些比较短的名言，谚语来自人们的日常生活和经验。所以不同的国家有不同的谚语。由于不同的地理环境，宗教信仰，风俗习惯，寓言神话，以及文学艺术诸多方面的差异，英汉谚语承载着不同的民族文化特色和不同文化信息。他们与文化紧密相连，不可分割。谚语中的文化因素构成了翻译中的困难。本文主要从文化差异的角度去分析谚语的翻译，以及探讨几种常用翻译方法，比如直译、意译、以及直译意译的结合。

Abstract
Proverb is a short well-known saying that states a general truth, or gives advice. Proverbs come from life and people’s experience, so different countries have different proverbs. Because of differences of natural geography environment, religious beliefs, habits and customs, fables and myth, and cultures and arts, English and Chinese proverbs carry on the different national cultural characteristics and information. Proverbs are closely linked with cultural traditions and are inseparable. The cultural elements of proverbs cause the difficulty of translation of proverb. This paper mainly tries to explore the proverb translation from the view of cultural differences and some main methods of proverb translation are put forward. For example, literal translation, free translation and the combination of the two.
