摘要:本文选取了世界著名小说《福尔摩斯探案集之恐怖谷》里的第一，二章节作为翻译原文，其文体正式，语言纯正，用词准确，是理想的翻译练习材料。笔者在翻译的过程中严格遵循“忠实”和“流畅”的原则。首先，在翻译选词方面仔细斟酌，选取更能体现原文作者意思的词汇进行翻译；其次，在译文句式方面，在直译不通顺的情况下巧妙运用意译技巧，使译文句式更符合汉语的习惯表达以保证行文的连贯流畅。通过此次的翻译练习，作者对小说等文学体裁作品的特点有了进一步的了解，同时也懂得了不同体裁文章的翻译策略、思路和翻译方法各有不同，因此我们在翻译实践时必须先制定好正确的翻译策略，只要这样才能保证译文的信、达、雅三面俱到。

Abstract:The world’s famous novel Collection of Holmes’s Detective Stories—The Valley of Fear is selected as the translating material for its formality in style, purity in language and accuracy in words. It’s an ideal material for translating. In the process of the interpretation, the author follows the principle of faithfulness and fluency. Firstly, when doing the translating work, the author cautiously weights and chooses his words in order to better embody the writer’s original intention. Secondly, in terms of the sentence structure in the version, when the literal translation is against the fluency principle, the author adopts the free translation skill to make sure the version’s sentence structure is in accordance with Chinese idiomatic expression and thus saves the version’s fluency. Through this translating practice, the writer forms a better understanding of the characteristics of literature works, and also learns that different stylistic works require different translating strategies, ideas and methods. Therefore, before beginning translating, we’d better work out a workable translating plan in order to assure the faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance of our translation.
